Head Teacher's Message

Headteacher Dr Wade Nottingham welcomes visitors to Bristol Cathedral Choir School and highlights its status as the oldest school in Bristol with a rich musical tradition and distinctive Christian ethos; the school aims for world-class education, inclusivity, pastoral care, and strong outcomes for its students.

Facilities

Purpose-built music centre including ICT suite, large teaching and performance space, a Sixth Form teaching room, a professional-standard recording studio, practice rooms and a 250-seat concert hall.

Curriculum Highlights

Broad, balanced and knowledge-rich education for all learners (Powerful Knowledge curriculum). Curriculum designed by specialist leaders to maximise cognitive development; coherent sequencing and assessment. Core values of kindness, courage and hope. Music is a principal specialism with a strong focus on choristers, instrumental lessons and ensembles; five choirs and multiple orchestras; professional visiting teachers. Expressive, active, creative and physical curriculum, including learning outside the classroom and a COVID-19 recovery/post-school-closure context.

SEND Provision

The school keeps a register of students who require additional help to learn (SEND); SENCo is Jo Bennett; support can be part of normal lessons or in additional specialised lessons; works with outside professionals; Government expectations met; pastoral care and focus on preparing for adulthood.

Admissions Criteria

Ten per cent of Year 7 intake is selected according to music aptitude; choristers are educated at Bristol Cathedral Choir School; admissions include priority for choristers and a Music Aptitude Test for Music Specialists.
