Head Teacher's Message

Headteacher Rebekah Hayes welcomes readers to Castle Wood, describes it as a primary broad spectrum special school meeting diverse SEN needs, emphasizes holistic development, independence, innovative learning opportunities, collaboration with parents, governors and external agencies to prepare pupils with life skills for now and the future.

Curriculum Highlights

Four identified curriculum pathways. Paths are porous; teachers may dip into other pathways to consolidate or expand knowledge. Learning outcomes include building positive relationships, becoming confident communicators, independence, resilience, effective learning, and creativity. Observation-based assessment determines the next steps and places the child at the centre of the framework.

Admissions Criteria

Only children and young people with complex needs which cannot be met within mainstream would require a specialist setting. The Local Authority must name Castle Wood in a child or young person's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) where appropriate, after consulting with the school; enquiries for admissions should be directed to Coventry City Council SEN Team.
