Head Teacher's Message

Kingsmead School is a specialist provision that aims to support all pupils with their individual needs. It emphasizes exciting learning and life experiences to equip pupils with the skills and confidence to thrive, while fostering strong partnerships with parents and carers through a ‘team around the child’ approach. The school motto is “Great today: better tomorrow,” and staff commit to never giving up to help each pupil reach their potential.

Curriculum Highlights

Pupils follow the National Curriculum for KS3 and KS4 with an enquiry and nurture-based approach. Strong emphasis on developing social and emotional awareness, resilience and self-regulation. Interventions may be used to meet needs and bridge gaps in KS4; nurture curriculum as a holistic approach. S.E.L.F (Social and Emotional Learning Framework) based around the school values of RESPECT. Nurture and Hybrid pathways provide a personalised approach while maintaining access to a broad range of subjects. The curriculum emphasises knowledge acquisition, cross-curricular learning, and development of critical thinking and social skills. Careers and guidance are a focus; opportunities through Prince’s Trust qualifications and Themed curriculum; ASDAN outcomes in PSD are supported. Pathways include Core, Nurture, Hybrid with different levels of SEMH support and independence. Options subjects include Design Technology, Sport, Food, Art; emphasis on progression to post-16 destinations.

Admissions Criteria

All students have an EHCP and are placed directly through the Local Authority.
