Curriculum Highlights

Broad and balanced curriculum delivered through an innovative bilingual approach with equal emphasis on English and British Sign Language In-house Speech and Language Therapists and an Audiologist embed phonics into everyday teaching and learning Early Years Foundation Stage learning provides a secure foundation Peep Learning Together Programme to help parents and carers develop language through play From year 7 onwards, START programme to create personal career plans and the use of Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance Compass+ used to measure the effectiveness of the careers provision against the Gatsby Benchmarks Driving theory and hands-on experiences in natural settings inspired by Forest School Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and other employer/higher education engagements

Admissions Criteria

We admit severely and profoundly deaf children and young people aged 3-19, including those with cochlear implants and visual impairments. All children are assessed by a highly specialist speech and language therapist, audiologist and a wider team of experts in deaf education.

Financial Information

The fee depends upon the needs of individual children following assessment. RSDD has a fair fee structure underpinned by a sound matrix of need. It receives High Needs Funding directly from the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and takes this off the cost of a placement so the Local Authority 'top-up' payment is less.
