Executive Headteacher Michelle Catterson welcomes visitors and highlights Moon Hall as a specialist dyslexia school with strong GCSE results, dedicated staff, and a focus on both academic rigour and pastoral support.

Curriculum Highlights

The school follows the National Curriculum where possible and tailors it to ensure pupils can access the course; five exam boards are used to tailor GCSE opportunities; Core GCSE examinations include English Language, Maths and Biology, with the option to take English Literature and more than eleven additional GCSE or GCSE-equivalent subjects. English staff are specialists in dyslexia with highly structured multi-sensory remedial programmes – based on the work of leading dyslexia theorists. We teach in small classes, aiming to have a maximum of 14; wider curriculum includes Science, Geography, History, IT, Art, PE and Games led by subject specialists; Touch-typing, Animation and Mindfulness are taught to all pupils; Forest School activities are included on Friday afternoons.

SEND Provision

In-house Therapy Provision including Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA), Counselling; Therapy Assistants; referral through Head of Therapy or SENCo; collaboration with teachers to implement interventions.

Admissions Criteria

Admission is based on the review of submitted specialist reports relating to the child’s educational needs and developmental progress, and these must include a diagnosis of dyslexia as the primary SEN. Acceptance depends on review of school reports and any specialist reports; there are limited places; we require the child to have joined us for at least one day to see whether they fit in with the existing pupils in their likely grouping.
