Welcome from Headteacher David Deacon. Ashmount is a special school for pupils aged 4–19 with a range of special educational needs. The school moved to a brand new building on the Charnwood College campus in January 2014, with access to facilities such as a heated swimming pool, multi-sensory and soft play rooms, dedicated art, music and cookery rooms and extensive playgrounds. The school emphasizes a broad curriculum and extracurricular activities to develop independence and social skills, with evidence of strong personal progress for pupils.
Ashmount provides a total communication environment using speech, objects of reference, body signs, photographs, Makaton signing, Widgit symbols and information and communication technology (speech output devices). A Speech and Language Therapist visits the school two days a week. A Lead Communication Mentor is provided across the school, with an additional teacher appointed to meet needs of AAC users. TAC PAC (tactile assisted communication) and other communication strategies are employed; a variety of supports including withdrawal sessions are used to aid pupils' communication.
Admissions are through an Education, Health and Care Plan or for assessment. Pupils will be admitted from Loughborough and surrounding areas as directed by the Special Education Needs Assessment Service at County Hall. Parents should contact Leicestershire County Council to find out about admission and appeal arrangements.
