Head Teacher's Message

Headteacher Nik Foster welcomes families to Mellor, describing it as a large, vibrant, inclusive school with strong community links and extensive arts enrichment via Cross Corners Arts Centre, plus Forest School provision. The school values pupil voice and Oracy; accreditations include Bronze School Mental Health Award, Eco School Green Flag Award, Platinum Sports Mark, and Platinum Arts Mark. Ofsted (Sept 2023) rated GOOD with 94% parent endorsement.

Curriculum Highlights

Follow the National Curriculum as set out by the Department for Education. Systematic Synthetic Phonics Programme by ALS (Ann Louise Smalberger Letters and Sounds). Daily phonics sessions in EYFS, Year 1 and 2. Guided and shared reading across year groups, including decodable texts in the EYFS aligned to phonics and KS1/KS2 strategies. KS2 uses the Reciprocal Reading approach to develop comprehension. Reading interventions to help pupils catch up and a wide range of arts and cultural enrichment offered.
