Welcome to Barley Croft Primary School. We are committed to ensuring everyone is Happy, Safe and Learning, with a focus on high standards, a broad range of activities, and an integrated Speech and Language DSP that sits within the whole-school community. Headteacher: Rebecca Dulieu.
The school hosts a Designated Specialist Provision (DSP) with a Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) focus, capacity up to 15 pupils from Year 1 to Year 6. The DSP provides intensive speech and language intervention, works with parents and professionals, and NHS Speech and Language Therapists are based in school weekly. DSP pupils follow the mainstream curriculum with differentiation; literacy uses National Curriculum 2014 steps; maths uses Power Maths; the DSP includes life skills lessons and access to the school’s outdoor classroom. Transition and EHCP-based target setting are part of DSP practice, with some pupils moving to mainstream classes as appropriate. Admission to the DSP is handled through the Special Education Service (SES).
All admissions to the DSP unit are handled through the Special Education Service (SES). Places within the unit are allocated through a panel meeting following the implementation or review of a child’s EHCP where the primary need is speech, language and communication needs which cannot be met effectively within a mainstream classroom.
