"Every child, their Own Path… Be Ambitious, Be Kind, Be You."
At Bitterne Church of England Primary School, our Christian vision shapes everything we do. We are a welcoming and inclusive community, where every child is valued as a unique individual, created and loved by God. Guided by our Christian values of Hope, Courage and Creativity, we work together so that all our pupils flourish — confident in who they are, ambitious in what they can become, and fully prepared for the next stage of their learning. We are proud to be a Church of England school that serves its whole community, and we are supported by the Diocese of Winchester. Our close partnership with Holy Saviour Church includes weekly Collective Worship led by the local vicar and a seat on the Governing Board. Collective Worship is central to daily life and services are held at Holy Saviour Church; Year 6 pupils attend the Winchester Diocesan Leavers’ Service at Winchester Cathedral each July.
Headteacher Mrs Jen Johnson welcomes families to Bitterne CE Primary School, describing it as a warm, inclusive two-form entry primary school for children from Year R to Year 6. She notes the school’s Christian foundations and core values (Hope, Courage, Creativity), emphasizes the aim to give every child the best start in a kind, respectful and nurturing environment, and highlights the importance of close partnership with parents and carers.
Horizon comprises two on-site wraparound provisions: Horizon Breakfast Club (7:30am–8:30am) and Horizon After School Club (3:15pm–5:45pm). After School Club provides a snack and a mix of free play, creative and physical activities in a safe, supervised setting. Both facilities are based in the school’s newly refurbished kitchen and the Key Stage 2 hall, with safeguarding and well-being as priorities; bookings are required in advance through the school office.
The school offers PAThS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Skills) curriculum to support mental health and well-being; Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) provision is available (staffed by named ELSAs); collaboration with the Mental Health in Schools Team (MHST) for early intervention and tailored support; Inclusion Leader and SENDCo roles are in place to coordinate SEND provision.
