I am extremely proud and privileged to welcome you to Mount Pleasant Junior School. We are a junior school that puts the child at the centre of all that we do. We believe that all our learners should be empowered to use their voice, develop resilience and know that they belong.

Curriculum Highlights

Enquiry-based history curriculum that uses our historically-rich city; enrichment visits to Sea City Museum, Fishbourne Palace and Hampton Court; learning questions and robust vocabulary development Text-led English teaching with high-quality literature from diverse authors; opportunities to read, discuss, compare versions, and develop language and literacy; dialogue-rich learning and written narrative/analysis drawing on sources Computing taught via a spiral curriculum with weekly sessions and Learning Question units; coding with Scratch Junior and Logo; online safety aligned to the UK Council for Internet Safety framework Geography taught through an enquiry-based curriculum with fieldwork in a coastal and river-bound city; emphasis on place knowledge, human and physical processes, and the use of maps, globes and images Music provision includes whole-school music assemblies, choir and brass tuition; partnership with Southampton Music Hub and other arts organisations; enrichment opportunities and massed choir events Oracy Centre of Excellence status with Voice 21 accreditation; focus on speaking and listening as a core school priority and evidence of positive impact on pupils’ communication

SEND Provision

Mount Pleasant Junior School provides inclusive education for all pupils, using a graduated approach to SEND. The school is highly inclusive and includes pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in all aspects of the curriculum, extracurricular clubs and trips. Adaptations or different approaches may be employed to ensure equal access to learning, and the school works with parents and pupils to identify appropriate strategies to support inclusion.
