Head Teacher's Message

A warm welcome from Executive Headteacher Daniel Constable-Phelps; the motto is 'be the best version of yourself'; a new curriculum was launched in September 2022 and has led to pupil thriving and a culture of 'whatever it takes'; the school aims to provide bespoke subject knowledge development and reduce traditional marking while maintaining high expectations.

Curriculum Highlights

Experiential, knowledge-led curriculum across all subjects, connected to the City of Southampton and local surroundings Reading is cornerstone: structured phonics with Letters and Sounds, 1 hour Guided Reading daily, and two phonics sessions in KS1 Curriculum builds schema over time, linking knowledge across subjects (e.g., History, Geography, Art) Assessment and improvement supported by PiXL tools for diagnostic assessments, therapy, and summative testing Trips and visits integrated into the curriculum (local and national) to deepen understanding Curriculum leadership by Lion Pathways, with pathway progression from EYFS through Year 6 and subject-specialist input for PE and Music Inclusive approach with SEND and EAL adaptations, including task adaptation for complex needs

SEND Provision

Dedicated inclusion support team provides personalised interventions and pastoral care; Nurture Groups; pre-diagnosis co-production with parents; collaboration with external agencies; CPOMS for safeguarding; support for social, emotional, medical needs; pathway to tailored educational provision.

Admissions Criteria

Mason Moor follows Southampton City Council admissions policy for Community and Voluntary Controlled schools. Reception intake is 30 children. All newly admitted children and parents attend a meeting; SEND will not be used to deny admission; Home-School Agreement is signed; visits to the school; information about attendance and needs is gathered during admission meetings.
