Executive Headteacher welcome text explains Brackenfield as an area SEND school for the South of Derbyshire serving ages 3–16 (3–19 from Sept 2025), meeting the needs of pupils with complex, severe and profound learning needs (including those with complex medical and physical needs) and inviting prospective parents/pupils to visit to discuss their needs.

Curriculum based on The Preparation for Adulthood Framework focusing on life and functional skills Emphasis on pupil voice and independence Incorporates character education and British Values Aims to provide choice, voice, independence, functionality and joy in living throughout school and into adulthood

SEND Provision

Brackenfield SEND School plans to expand to offer a specialist post-16 provision for preparing young people with SEND (specifically SLD) for employment. The Learning For Life – Supported Employment Provision includes a Supported Employment Study Programme (entry 2–level 1), a Preparation for Employment Study Programme (entry 2–level 1), and a Supported Internship (entry 2–level 1). The two-year programme involves two types of work placements (Year 1 short-term placements/work experience; Year 2 long-term placements, working interviews and supported internships) with approximately 70% of time in the workplace. The programme aims to enable sustainable paid employment through real workplace skills, with outcomes such as qualifications in English and maths, Functional Skills, vocational units, work experience references, and related enrichment and transition planning. Provision includes life skill development, access to therapies and health interventions, travel training, community projects, and Career Information, Advice and Guidance.
