"Inspiring excellence; everyone, everyday"
Tim Beavan, Headteacher, welcomes visitors and emphasizes Wessex’s mission to inspire excellence in all they do. He highlights the four core values (Positivity, Honesty, Respect, Pride), notes the school is attachment-aware, serves a community near Maidenhead with around 400 pupils and a two-form entry structure, and mentions the specialist Hearing Resource Base as a distinctive feature. He invites prospective families to arrange a visit and learn about life at Wessex through the newsletter and school information available on the site.
The Hearing Resource Base (HRB) provides a resource provision for hearing-impaired children with daily access to Teachers of the Deaf and Special Support Assistants. Children who are part of the HRB have EHCPs for hearing impairment ranging from moderate to profound loss. Pupils wear hearing aids or cochlear implants and use radio aids in school to support access to spoken language. All classes have soundfield systems. The HRB follows a natural aural approach to communication, with pupils withdrawn to the HRB for speech and language therapy sessions and other curriculum support as needed.
Admissions are managed by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM). Applications for a Reception place must be submitted to RBWM by the January deadline for entry in the following September. A designated Wessex catchment area map is available on the admissions page. School tours and stay-and-play sessions take place in autumn term. Children can start full-time at the school from September following their 4th birthday; online applications can be submitted from early November of the year before starting.
