Curriculum Highlights

From Year 5, Leighton Middle School offers a broad curriculum with specialist teachers, resources and rooms. The curriculum is planned by specialists and each subject has a curriculum map clarifying the learning journey from Years 5-8. The school uses a whole-school timetable showing hours per week per year for core subjects and a structured Year 5-8 schedule. Lessons use Learning Partners to provide instant support and feedback, and include Star Challenges to extend learning. There is a strong focus on reading and literacy across the school, including a well-stocked library and reading strategies such as echo reading and shared reading. Curriculum across subjects (e.g., Art, Computer Studies, DT, English, Maths, Science, Music, PSHCE, Religion and Worldviews, etc.) is integrated with a broad range of enrichment and careers activities.
