Head Teacher's Message

Welcome message from the Headteacher introducing Fordley as a large, growing primary school serving the local community, including Fordley Flyers (nursery/preschool), and inviting enquiries.

Curriculum Highlights

Maths curriculum uses Mastering Number@KS1 and Mastering Number@KS2 with NCETM curriculum prioritisation materials and Great North Maths Hub CPD to develop mastery and representations. Phonics and reading are delivered through Read Write Inc (RWI) with daily phonics in KS1, discussing screening checks and home reading linked to phonic knowledge. Reading is enriched through daily guided reading in KS2, a broad range of texts, and reading for pleasure activities including library visits and theatre experiences. Writing is taught with the Talk for Writing approach, with writing for real purposes, publishing for younger pupils, and writing for pleasure. Curriculum emphasizes equity and social justice, with a focus on narrowing gaps for disadvantaged children and embedding broad, culturally aware learning through cross-curricular links. There is a strong focus on vocabulary development, metacognition, and progressive skill development with explicit progression and assessment measures.
