Head Teacher's Message

Headteacher Miss L Welsh leads the school, housed in a modern building opened in 2018. The school was judged ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in October 2021. The staff and Governors emphasise strong teaching and learning opportunities through a broad and balanced curriculum, with a calm learning environment and clear values. The Headteacher is available via the school office for queries.

Curriculum Highlights

The Early Years Framework and National Curriculum outlines the expectations of pupils' learning and understanding at the end of each age phase. Assessment is carried out formatively in lessons and supplemented by a range of testing materials; cross-moderation within the school and with other schools; external moderation by the Local Authority on a rolling programme. Progress in Early Years is assessed against the Early Years Outcomes and Developmental Matters; statutory outcomes reported to Local Authority and nationally. In Key Stages 1 and 2, pupils are assessed against statutory measures; some pupils may be Working Towards Standard, Expected Standard, or Greater Depth Standard; for some identified SEND pupils, Cherry Garden School and Pebbles Curriculum are used to track progress. Statutory Assessments include Year 1 Phonic Check, Year 4 Multiplication Times Tables Check, End of Key Stage 2 SATs.

SEND Provision

SENDCO is Miss V Wood; the school is a Thrive school and has a team trained to deliver Mental Health First Aid; a School Nurse works with children and families to support mental health and medical issues; Nurture Club supports mental health in lunch times; Cherry Garden School and Pebbles Curriculum used for some identified SEND pupils to track progress

Admissions Criteria

Admissions are administered by North Tyneside Local Authority. PAN for Reception-Year 6 is 45. Nursery has 26 places per session (30-hour provision possible). Most pupils transfer to George Stephenson High School at end of Year 6. In-year applications go to School Admissions. Applications after the start of the year should be discussed with the Headteacher.
