Broadgate is a school full of joy, ambition and potential. It is led by Headteacher Sarah Qualtrough, who describes a nurturing and inspiring environment where every child can flourish academically, socially and emotionally, with strong home–school partnerships and community links.

Curriculum Highlights

Reading and Phonics Teaching: daily phonics in Reception and KS1 using Read Write Inc; core reading scheme Oxford Reading Tree; guided reading sessions and a School Library Service partnership; emphasis on Reading for Pleasure. Mathematics Teaching: follows National Curriculum; 'number happy' approach; daily maths; mental maths; real-world problem solving; use of ICT, PE and science to apply maths concepts. RE and PSHE: RE and PSHE taught as part of the curriculum; daily act of collective worship. Modern Foreign Languages: French taught to all KS2 pupils. Curriculum design: language-rich, inclusive, accessible, with outdoor learning, theme days, educational visits and a growth mindset; use of a virtual learning environment for independent research.

Admissions Criteria

Broadgate Primary is an admission authority managed by Leeds City Council. The Published Admission Number (PAN) is 60 for Reception. Applications are made through Leeds City Council’s process with a national deadline (e.g., 15 January 2025 for Reception 2025). The Local Authority coordinates in-year applications and waiting lists are kept until the end of each school year. Infant class size is limited to 30 pupils per teacher for certain year groups, and parents may appeal through an independent panel coordinated by the council.
