Admissions Criteria

Woodley is a special school for Autistic Children. It is an aspirational Kirklees Local Authority provision for children aged 5-19 with complex autism. Pupils have an EHCP/Statement with main needs identified as Autism Spectrum Disorder (often with high severity) and may have additional needs such as epilepsy, mental health difficulties, ADHD, motor coordination problems, language impairment or sensory processing disorders. They must meet criteria including extreme difficulties with self-management and self-regulation, social interactions, high anxiety, inflexibility of thought, and sensory processing challenges. Pupils require a highly personalised programme of support in a low arousal environment, with an intensive support team (including educational psychologist, speech and language therapist and occupational therapist). The school aims to set aspirational academic and personal targets and to develop independence, with opportunities to access GCSE courses at other settings where possible.
