Head Teacher's Message

Crossley Fields Junior & Infant School is a three-form entry, culturally diverse primary school in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, with around 540 children. It places equal emphasis on educational and personal development and has strong links with parents and the local community. The school’s core values were developed by the school council and are Unity, Positivity, Individuality, Perseverance, Ambition and Loyalty. Headteachers are Mrs Louise Howard and Mrs Nic Shepherd, and visits to the school are welcomed.

Curriculum Highlights

Creative education is applied across the curriculum to develop problem solving, perseverance and independent thinking. Cross-curricular topics and practical experiences, such as Nature-themed projects and Heroes and Villains, develop skills in art, design and writing. Hands-on Maths activities, including construction projects using measured dowels, to apply measurement skills in real-world contexts.

Admissions Criteria

If the number of admissions requests exceeds the number of places available, places will be offered taking into account: pupils who are looked after (in public care); pupils who live in the school’s catchment area with siblings; pupils who live in the area with siblings; pupils who live in the area; pupils who live out of area with siblings; pupils who live out of area; nearest school with places. Special consideration given when outside agencies are involved and make a recommendation (e.g., family doctor, educational psychologist, social worker). At the end of Year 6, transfer to secondary school with induction day; Kirklees Admissions registration between 1 September and 31 October; notification of the allocated place in the spring term.
