Rowan School endeavours to create a safe, happy and supportive environment that promotes respect and understanding and encourages sensitivity to the needs of others to nurture all. The aim is to support children in building a secure foundation for learning and life, valuing each child’s individuality and fostering inclusion through cooperative partnership with parents and professionals.

Curriculum Highlights

Bespo​ke curriculum developed in partnership with children, families, governors and other professionals. Multi-sensory approaches and outdoor learning. Cross curricular topics covering English, maths, science, design technology, information communication technology, music, art and design, history, geography, a modern foreign language (Spanish), RE and PE. Pathways Roots, Branches, Twigs and Leaves; three-year topic cycle. Revision of Development Matters and National Curriculum programmes of study alongside many aspects of the SCERTS model; multi-sensory, outdoor learning and a communication rich environment. Assessment through observations, Educator and progress towards EHCP targets, with input from other professionals such as SALT.

Admissions Criteria

All children admitted to Rowan School have an Education Health Care Plan that describes a severe or complex communication difficulty such as autistic spectrum disorder. A Local Authority panel decides whether Rowan School’s provisions can best meet the pupil’s needs, and parents/carers should contact Sheffield Special Educational Needs department for further details. When appropriate, after considering advice from parents/carers and professionals, the City Council's Special Educational Needs Department will offer a placement at Rowan and name the school in the child’s Education Health care plan, if appropriate. Visitors can book appointments via the school website. For further information of the process, parents and carers should contact the Local Authority Special Educational Needs section on 0114 205 2856.
