"Enjoy / Challenge / Celebrate / Achieve"
Headteacher Andy Ruddick welcomes visitors to Heaton School, Stockport’s secondary special school for 11-19s, emphasising the four-word ethos Enjoy, Challenge, Celebrate, Achieve and the school’s inclusive, highly staffed, pathway-based curriculum (Pre-formal, Informal, Semi-formal) that prepares students for adulthood.
Heaton School serves 11-19 year olds with severe or profound learning difficulties, many with additional complex needs including autism and complex medical needs. Admissions are through Stockport Local Authority and pupils would usually have an Education Health and Care Plan or Statement of SEN. Places are decided by Stockport SEN with panels in Autumn Term for the following year’s year 6s (school place) and year 12s (post-16). Classes may be vertically grouped depending on needs, abilities and social preferences, with an inclusive philosophy and individualised timetables or additional support as required.
