Curriculum Highlights

Reading is at the core of the curriculum with a strong emphasis on reading for pleasure and vocabulary development. A broad and balanced curriculum with cross-curricular approaches and DEAL (Drama, Engagement and Active Learning) strategies. Outdoor learning, Forest School and use of the environmental area to enrich learning. Active pupil voice through a school council and stakeholder involvement. Ongoing staff CPD to ensure high-quality teaching across subjects.

Wraparound Care

Breakfast Club: Yes After-School Care: Yes

Breakfast Club runs from 8:00am to 8:55am with a nominal fee of £3.50 per session. After School Club runs from 3:25pm to 5:30pm (3:25-4:25, 4:25-5:30; Friday 3:25-5:20) with a charge of £5.50 until 4:25pm and £8.00 until 5:30pm (or 5:20pm on Friday). There is a £10 registration fee (one-off). For more information please contact the school office.

SEND Provision

Inclusion and SEND Lead coordinates SEND provision. Vernon Park’s Speech and Language Centre serves children aged 3 to 5 with specific language difficulties; referrals are made by the Speech Therapy service. The SEND information is supported by links to local SEND services and resources.

Admissions Criteria

Admissions are co-ordinated by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. To apply for Nursery, Reception, or Secondary School, please refer to the published deadline dates for each year group (Nursery January 2026 start, Nursery April 2026 start, Primary September 2026, and Secondary September 2026). Financial Information

School meals cost £2.93 per day for Years 3-6, increasing to £3.06 from 28 March 2026. Nursery meals cost £2.51 per day increasing to £2.62 from 28 March 2026. Universal Free School Meals have been available since September 2014 for infant children. Free School Meals eligibility follows government criteria with online claim forms available. Clothing Grants (for secondary) and compulsory uniform badges are described. Uniform can be purchased from Monkhouse; pre-loved uniforms are available via Vernon Park thrift shop on Facebook. Additional items available from the school office include Pump Bag (£3.50), School Reading Bag (£8.00), Water Bottle (£1.15). Breakfast Club and After School Club fees apply as described above.
