Ethos & Values

"Exploring faith, life and learning"

Thankfulness Forgiveness Compassion Perseverance Peace Friendship

St Edward's is affiliated with St Martin's Church. Collective Acts of Worship form an important part of school life. Through assemblies within school and at St Martin's Church, children acquire knowledge and understanding of a range of relationships, attitudes, religious and philosophical issues. As a whole school we hold Harvest, Christingle and Easter services at St Martin's, and celebrate with our church at other times of the year.

Head Teacher's Message

Welcome from Headteacher Dr A Petrie: the school has been led by Dr Petrie for 22 years; the school is described as a kind, caring and welcoming community with children at the heart of all we do. The staff aim to provide a calm, stimulating environment where good behaviour and mutual respect are modelled, and where everyone is valued. The school emphasizes its Christian values and invites visits to see the school in action.

Curriculum Highlights

Curriculum designed to build the architecture of long-term memory, with vocabulary and subject-specific terminology mapped across the year groups. Most foundation subjects delivered via Kapow schemes of work, with content repeated and revisited to support retrieval and mastery. Mathematics taught using NCETM-endorsed Power Maths with a mastery approach; daily Mastering Number for EYFS/KS1; KS2 fluency routines; emphasis on depth over speed. Jigsaw PSHE used as a whole-school approach for personal development, emotional literacy, mindfulness, social skills and spiritual development; My Happy Mind used to support wellbeing. Computing taught across three strands: digital literacy, computer science and information technology, with strong emphasis on online safety and cross-curricular use. Inclusion is central; quality first teaching, Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, and adaptive strategies to meet SEND needs. Geography, History, Science, Design & Technology, Art & Design, Music, MFL and RE are taught with a focus on vocabulary, discussion, enquiry-based learning and cross-curricular links.
