Curriculum Highlights

Design Technology is taught every other half term and develops skills in mechanisms, structures, textiles, mechanical and electrical systems, and cooking/nutrition, culminating in a final piece evaluated against design criteria. DT learning follows the Design and Technology Association’s Projects On A Page, using a design–make–evaluate cycle and real-life contexts, with food technology delivered with support from Apple of My Eye. Geography includes regular fieldwork as a statutory part of the national curriculum, with three units per year and key threads of My Place in the World, Sustainability and Connectivity. Computing curriculum covers three strands (Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Literacy) mapped to the National Curriculum, using NCCE or Purple Mash units and Code Studio, plus online safety and home learning tools like Google Classroom and Purple Mash. Mathematics is taught with a mastery approach, using CPA (Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract), White Rose resources, daily retrieval, and regular low-stakes assessments to monitor progress and plan next steps. PSHE and SRE are guided by the PSHE Association framework, supported by 1Decision and The Christopher Winter Project, with Emotion Works integrated to support emotional language and well-being. Spanish begins in Early Years, with weekly lessons in KS1/KS2 (15 minutes for Nursery/Reception); lessons are delivered by a specialist native Spanish teacher from Liverpool School Improvement. Science is taught in half-term units with knowledge organisers, low-stakes quizzes, practical investigations and outdoor learning to build scientific thinking. Art & Design emphasises drawing, textiles, sculpture, painting, printmaking and collage, with personalised sketchbooks and gallery-style learning experiences. EYFS Curriculum Overview highlights the balance of indoor/outdoor learning across Communication & Language, Expressive Art & Design, Literacy, Mathematics, Personal, Social & Emotional Development, Physical Development, and Understanding the World. Emotion Works is an education programme to help children learn emotional language, develop emotional understanding and manage their feelings and behaviours. British Values and democratic principles are embedded across the curriculum, with a School Council and democratic processes, together with a Rights-based and inclusive approach under the UNCRC and Sanctuary ethos. The curriculum emphasizes fieldwork, real-life contexts, and building a broad, knowledge-rich progression across year groups.
