Curriculum Highlights

D&T follows the investigate, design, make and evaluate cycle (excluding cooking and nutrition) with a focus on real-life contexts and CAD. Knowledge maps and the 'golden thread' to embed sticky knowledge and key vocabulary; progression grids across year groups. Art emphasises the 7 formal elements of art with a termly focus: Autumn - Drawing; Spring - Painting & Colour; Summer - 3D & Sculpture; cross-cultural exposure. French uses Early Start Online and Physical French Phonics; progressive year-by-year topics; cross-curricular links and culture focus; emphasis on speaking, listening, reading and writing. Computing uses a three-strand framework (Computer Science, Digital Literacy, Information Technology); PRIMM problem-solving approach; typing clubs; Micro:bit and Crumble in Year 4 and Year 6; Bebras Challenge and AstroPi initiatives; emphasis on online safety. Music includes the Sing Up scheme, class percussion and recorder lessons, peripatetic tuition, whole-school singing assemblies, choirs and participation in events such as O2 and Rose Theatre festivals, and recognition as a Music Mark School. Science is enquiry-led with visits to onsite nature areas and trips to Kew Gardens and Bushy Park; STEAM Week and a progression for science from EYFS to KS2; emphasis on practical investigations and explicit scientific vocabulary. Phonics is taught via Essential Letters and Sounds; Reception daily phonics from Autumn 1 with Phase 2-5 progression; Year 1 daily phonics; Year 2 phonics and spelling through Phase 5 and 6 with guided reading; home support materials and reading comprehension focus.

Wraparound Care

CATS is open every day during the school term. The morning scheme runs from 7.30am with breakfast served between 7.45am and 8.10am. Children are then seen into their classes for the start of the day. During the morning session children are provided with breakfast followed by indoor and outdoor play / arts and crafts / reading time. After school, children are taken to the CATS rooms where they have a light snack. Pick up is at 5.55pm at the latest. CATS closes at 6pm.
