Head Teacher's Message

Executive Headteacher Martin Kelsey-Hatton describes Raglan as a busy and vibrant federation of Raglan Infant and Raglan Junior, operating as one with a single headteacher, leadership team and governing body. The school serves around 930 pupils aged 3 to 11, with specialist teachers in Music, PE, Computing, Art & Design and Spanish, and around 50 after-school clubs. The Infant School was rated Outstanding in 2024 and the Junior School Outstanding in 2025, with a recent library transformation and an emphasis on a broad, balanced curriculum including strong reading, writing and maths.

Curriculum Highlights

Maths follows White Rose progression with a mastery approach; emphasis on fluency, reasoning and problem-solving using a concrete-pictorial-abstract (CPA) approach. Phonics & Reading: Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised; 30 minutes daily phonics in Reception and Year 1; rapid catch-up for gaps; three weekly Reading Practice Sessions; Fluency programme using Little Wandle Fluency. Writing: sequences centered around high-quality texts; explicit progression through Familiarisation, Analysis, Grammar, Planning, Application, Editing/Redrafting; handwriting aims for joined handwriting by end of KS2. Foundation Subjects: specialist teachers in PE, Music and Art; subject leaders plan progression; enrichment activities and trips. Early Years Foundation Stage alignment with Development Matters; CPA approach and emphasis on pre-writing and handwriting. Progression & Long-Term Planning: long-term plans with dedicated progression documents and short-term plans to ensure clear sequencing across year groups.

Wraparound Care

Raglan Wrap Club provides extended care from 7:30am to 6:00pm with capacity for around 150 pupils; includes breakfast and after-school sessions.

SEND Provision

Universal Infant Free School Meals provides lunch for every pupil in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Mayor of London is supporting free universal meals for all KS2 pupils in 2024/2025. If eligible, pupils may also qualify for Free School Meals (FSM) and related support.
