Holy Ghost is a Catholic Primary School. Religious Education underpins the curriculum delivered through 'Light the Path', supported by programmes for PSHE, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). The school promotes Catholic values and UNICEF rights of the child; there are parish links and a Catholic life within the school community.

Curriculum Highlights

Phonics taught using Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised (Reception to Y2; KS2 for further support). Reading taught with VIPERS approach in KS2; three shared reading sessions per week; Drop Everything and Read (DEAR). Spelling taught with No Nonsense Spelling Scheme. Mathematics taught with Mastery approach; White Rose Maths; NCETM; regular retrieval and problem-solving focus. English curriculum covers a range of genres; writing process: pre-writing, planning, drafting, revising, publishing; emphasis on handwriting and grammar. Geography focuses on five main skills including fieldwork and mapping; use of atlases/globes; enquiry-based enquiry questions. History taught through enquiry-based learning with local and world history; cross-curricular links and text-based enrichment. Art curriculum built year-on-year with sketchbooks and knowledge/skills progression; artists and techniques explored. Design and Technology covers Structures, Mechanisms, Electrical systems, Cooking/Nutrition, Textiles and Digital World; process of design-make-evaluate. Computing curriculum centers on Digital Literacy, Computer Science, and Information Technology; use of iPads/Chromebooks; strong emphasis on online safety. French introduced from Year 1; gradual progression to reading/writing with focus on speaking/listening; cultural awareness.

Wraparound Care

After-School Care: Yes

Breakfast Club planned to start in Autumn Term 2025 (managed by Fruity Club). After-school care provided by Fruity Club from 3:30pm to 6:30pm.
