Head Teacher's Message

Watergate School is an outstanding special school for pupils aged 4–11 with severe learning difficulties, complex needs, and autism. Our experienced team of teaching staff and professionals are committed to providing individualised learning, support and opportunities. Watergate is expanding, building on its success and popularity within the London Borough of Lewisham. We are very proud of our bespoke curriculum which is tailored to meet the individual needs of each pupil in an exciting, ambitious and fun way. Our learning opportunities ensure that our children are happy, healthy and receive the very best education to thrive and reach their full potential. We believe that working holistically with our families and multi-disciplinary colleagues provides the very best outcomes for all of our children. We very much welcome visits to our school.

Admissions Criteria

All pupils attending Watergate School will have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or will be in the process of being assessed for an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment, EHCNA). The EHCNA and EHCP processes are organised and managed by Lewisham’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) service. The age range for pupils at Watergate School is 3–11 years. However, due to the high demand for places for pupils of statutory school age, the majority of pupils are aged 5–11 years. Watergate School is a specialist provision dedicated to meeting the needs of pupils with: Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) or Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). In addition to the above primary needs, pupils may have additional needs which could include: Autism (ASD), Complex medical needs, Sensory impairment.
