Duncombe is a vibrant, happy and inclusive two form entry school that serves the local community that is rich in diversity. Through our Duncombe ASPIRE Values, we aim to ensure that all pupils at Duncombe have the highest aspirations, attain their full potential and enjoy learning in a school that is stimulating, challenging and creative. Curriculum Highlights

ASPIRE values underpin the curriculum and aim to develop Ambition, Self-Esteem, Perseverance, Independence, Respect and Enthusiasm. The curriculum is broad and balanced with a coherent, progressive vertical framework of knowledge and skills. Cultural capital: pupils are exposed to local museums, galleries and exhibitions; opportunities to learn about higher education and the world of work; visits and workshops; involvement in events such as Climate Change marches, International Evening, British Science Week, RE days and Black History Month. Environmental issues are studied in every year group, with topics such as deforestation in Year 2 and reducing waste in Year 5. Word power and communication: pupils develop a wide vocabulary, use vocabulary ladders, and have regular opportunities to talk and express themselves; texts used to promote adventurous vocabulary. SEN: the curriculum is planned and differentiated to meet the range of individual needs; all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum; high expectations; assessment-informed targets; progress of SEN pupils is monitored.

Wraparound Care

Breakfast Club: Yes After-School Care: Yes

After School Club runs until 5:55pm daily for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2; EYFS has a limited number of places organised through Extended Day Leader via the school office. Daily costs for Extended Day from 3:30pm to 5:00pm is £9; from 3:30pm to 5:55pm is £12. A concession rate is available (please speak to Chrissy or Linda). For more information, contact the school office or [email protected]. A fine will be levied for any late collections at £5 for the first 5 minutes, £10 for the second 10 minutes and £15 for the final 15 minutes. After 6:30pm any uncollected child will be taken to the local police station.

SEND Provision

Benjamin Pritchard is the SENCO and Safeguarding Lead. The Designated Safeguarding Lead is Benjamin Pritchard and the Deputy DSL is Sabrina Thomas. The Pastoral Team includes: Pastoral Lead, SENCO, DSL, CAMHS clinician, School Counsellor, School Therapist, Outreach Behaviour Support Worker, Educational Psychologist, Speech & Language Therapists, Early Help Practitioner. The school provides wellbeing resources and works with external agencies such as CAMHS and Early Help Family Support; Islington Services and the Islington family directory are referenced. Operation Encompass is in place in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and Children’s services to safeguard pupils who have experienced domestic violence.

Admissions Criteria

Reception Applications 2025-26: If your child's 4th birthday is between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022, they should start school in September 2026. The application period is from 1 September 2025 to 15 January 2026. School tours will be held for new families during the application period; please contact the school office for details. For information on applying for Reception school places please go to Islington website admissions. Current spaces across all year groups: 2 Year Olds - 5 spaces; 3-4 Year Nursery - 7 spaces; Reception - 20 spaces; Year 1 - 19 spaces; Year 2 - 19 spaces; Year 3 - 9 spaces; Year 4 - 4 spaces; Year 5 - 0 spaces; Year 6 - 0 spaces. 2 Year Olds and Nursery applications require a part-time or full-time code provided by the Local Authority (Islington). If a offer is possible, you will be invited to meet and complete a Duncombe Primary admissions form.
