Curriculum Highlights

Phonics is given high priority with daily Read, Write, Inc lessons in Early Years and Key Stage; staff receive comprehensive training; reading books are linked to taught phonics; home reading is encouraged. Reading is a strength with a focus on reading widely and often; the newly refurbished Melcombe library supports reading and staff read aloud daily to pupils. Interventions are used to address gaps before, during or after the school day, with regular rotation so pupils do not miss learning. Story time includes a book corner in every classroom, guided reading daily, and teacher read-aloud sessions. The curriculum recognises the importance of pupils' physical and mental wellbeing, with a timetable for extra-curricular activities and clubs to develop well-being. The curriculum is designed to develop pupils socially, morally, spiritually and culturally, with leadership opportunities and high expectations of attendance and behaviour.

Admissions Criteria

Reception admissions are managed by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham (LBHF). Criteria include priority need, siblings and distance. Children start in Reception in September when they turn five between 1 September of that year and 31 August of the following year. Applications are through eAdmissions. An elder sibling already at the school or in the Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place. In-year admissions and LBHF co-ordinated admissions policies apply, with an appeals timetable. Local authority links: starting school and in-year admissions.
