"Make today count"
Welcome to Brookfields School. The Headteacher, Catherine Bernie, notes that Brookfields is now part of the Ascendancy Partnership Trust and works with a committed team to achieve the best outcomes for pupils with SEND. The Trust motto is 'Stronger together' and the Headteacher’s own motto is 'Make today count.' The school aims to provide a broad, relevant curriculum, develop emotional self-regulation and core values (tolerance, cooperation, courage, determination, friendship, respect), and foster independence, confidence and integrity through learning and meaningful application of knowledge.
All Brookfields pupils have an EHCP with learning difficulty as their primary need (which could be moderate, severe or profound/complex). Some pupils may have additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, VI, HI, PD or MSI and may also have medical needs requiring care plans. Admissions involve the Local Authority agreeing Brookfields is the right placement; the Local Authority will write to the school with the pupil’s Statement or EHCP and any supporting documents. Brookfields’ team reviews the Statement/EHCP and assessed needs to determine if the school can meet those needs and whether there is an appropriate peer group; if so, the Local Authority offers a place and liaises with the family. Visitors are welcome to meet staff and pupils during visits; the Local Authority coordinates placement.
