The Oratory RC Primary and Nursery School is a Catholic school with Christ at the centre of everything. It emphasises Gospel values and Catholic Social Teaching, maintains an active Catholic life with prayer, liturgy and Mass, and works in partnership with the Oratory parish and school chaplain to nurture faith, service, and the moral development of pupils.

Curriculum Highlights

EYFS curriculum based on three prime areas (Personal, Social and Emotional development; Communication and Language; Physical development) and four specific areas (Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design) with a play-based, question-based approach to learning. Read Write Inc. (RWI) Phonics used in EYFS and Year 1; from Year 2 to Year 6, Comprehension Crusher (Grammarsaurus) supports reading comprehension. English curriculum includes a three-week writing cycle with opportunities for oracy, handwriting, spelling development, focused grammar teaching, and structured planning, writing and editing; reads and writes with high-quality class texts; rooted in Catholic Social Teaching to promote Dignity and Solidarity. Whole-school curriculum themes each half term (Autumn 1 It’s a Wonderful World; Autumn 2 Prepare for the Greatest Gift; Spring 1 Justice Begins with Us; Spring 2 The Ultimate Act of Love; Summer 1 Becoming Children of the Light; Summer 2 Ready to Grow). Geography curriculum aims to help children understand places, people and environments locally and globally, fostering a respectful view of other cultures and the environment and promoting global citizenship. Curriculum integrates the strong Catholic core with Gospel values and Catholic Social Teaching, emphasising personal development and cultural capital through enrichment. Curriculum drivers: Transformed in Faith; Inspired with Resilience; Motivated through Challenge; Empowered through Possibilities.
