"achievement and well-being through excellence"
Headteacher Carrie Osmond welcomes readers to Two Bridges Academy, which opened in September 2024 and aims to provide places for 112 pupils by 2026-27. The academy offers a holistic curriculum with specialist facilities such as a hydrotherapy pool, sensory diet area and sensory room, and a net zero carbon building. The vision is 'achievement and well-being through excellence', delivered with a team of therapists and multidisciplinary professionals to meet pupils' holistic needs, and there are ongoing efforts to develop inclusion opportunities through links with other schools and community groups, with a focus on integrity, respect and trust with families.
Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) provision with a tiered model (Tier 1–4). The core SALT service is provided by Enable Trust in collaboration with NHS, and SALT may be delivered in class or by SALT staff. The SALT team develops language and communication skills, alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton signing, communication books, PECS, high-tech aids), social communication, speech sound production, fluency, and feeding skills; assessments inform targets and recommendations, and some SALT interventions are delivered by school staff under supervision. The model uses tiers to determine input level, from whole-class support (Tier 1) to external specialist SALT (Tier 4).
A child or young person is eligible for a place at Two Bridges Academy if they have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and have a severe learning difficulty (SLD) or profound and multiple learning disability (PMLD); they may have autistic spectrum condition (ASC) or a physical or sensory disability; their needs are such that they can be met with the school's resources without adversely affecting any other learner; their needs are significant and affect most areas of learning; the school does not provide for children whose specific, primary need is Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). Visits from parents are recommended; school tours are offered each term; admissions are managed by local authorities, with South Gloucestershire LA information linked and local contacts provided.
