We are proud to be Church of England school and while embracing a Christian ethos, we also respect and acknowledge other faiths and personal views of the world. Our diverse membership is reflected in our inclusive practices. The children experience a daily act of worship, where values are explored through stories and discussions. Christian festivals are celebrated and we enjoy termly visits to St Barnabas church. All faiths are welcome here.
Headteacher Sarah Sheppard welcomes readers to St Barnabas Primary School, describing it as a one-form entry school with a nursery, a Christian ethos, and a commitment to an inspiring curriculum and strong partnerships with families and the Leaf Trust; values include Ambition, Compassion and Resilience.
Sports
Pupil Premium funding is used to support social, emotional and mental health needs and families through a Family Link Worker; specialist behaviour support; 1:1 reading support; release time for teachers; homework club; new reading books and equipment for the playpod; and enrichment activities. From September 2021, eligible children receive discounts and contributions to fees for residential camps, education visits, after-school clubs, and school uniform; the school also provides free places at breakfast club.
All admission requests are processed by the Local Authority and St Barnabas C of E Primary School has no role in this process. The school has a standard intake of 30 children per year. Admissions are mainly from the local geographical area with priority given to sibling placements where possible. Children with SEND are welcomed in partnership with the local authority, subject to the school’s ability to provide required support. A staggered induction programme is operated.
