Head Teacher's Message

Welcome to New Horizon Academy – a small school with a big heart. Our headteacher emphasizes hands-on, holistic learning that is practical, therapeutic, and creative, with small class sizes and a personalised approach. The aim is to empower, value, and support every student to reach their potential.

Curriculum Highlights

Pupils with MLD will be offered a subject-specific curriculum based on the National Curriculum and enriched by various non-qualification activities. There is an offer of Functional Skills Mathematics and English at Entry Levels 1–3 and Levels 1 &2.

Admissions Criteria

As a Special School the Local Authority (LA) commissions the school places at New Horizon Academy; all pupils that come to the school have an EHCP in place. Admissions involve LA/SENAR sending paperwork (EHCP); Head Teacher reviews paperwork and assesses suitability; if more information is needed an observation may be carried out; a Governing Body response is sent to the LA; places are offered only if there is a vacancy; an admissions register is maintained; the Head Teacher conducts visits on designated days; staff assist parents with completing relevant paperwork.
