Headteacher Dave Smith welcomes visitors and expresses the aim to provide the best possible education, equip pupils with skills, knowledge, qualities and values, and work closely with the community to foster collaboration and positive relationships. He emphasizes a partnership approach to enable all children to enjoy learning, thrive and achieve their potential in a happy, stimulating community school.
Woodthorpe provides SEND-related support and interventions. The SENCO is Miss Natasha Brady. The school works with a Speech and Language therapist who visits weekly and provides assessment targets and suggestions to provision for children with communication needs. Staff may use strategies such as visual timetables, memory aids, and ‘now and next’ boards to break learning into smaller steps. The school collaborates with external professionals including Educational Psychologists, Counsellors, CAMHS, Occupational Therapists and other external agencies to support SEND needs. The SEND policies and information report are available to download. 40% of the SEND cohort have speech, language and communication needs. The Inclusion Team includes Mrs Karen Bister (Deputy Head and Inclusion Lead), Miss Megan Clark (SENCO), Miss Lisa Bramhall (Assistant SENCO) and Mr Elliot Townsend (Behaviour and Engagement Lead).
