Belmont promotes fundamental British Values (democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs); assemblies celebrate religious festivals; the school reflects London’s culturally diverse society; every class is named after an artist and the curriculum includes influences from all over the world.
Headteacher Lucy Childs introduces Belmont Academy as a two-form entry school with a virtual resource provision for pupils who are visually impaired or blind and for those with physical/medical needs. The school emphasizes inclusive practice and aims to provide excellent, safe, calm and positive learning experiences, with a wide enrichment programme including access to the music service, after-school clubs, trips and residential visits.
Sports
Belmont has a Visual Impairment Resource Provision (VI) and a Physical/Medical Resource Provision. The VI provision includes qualified teachers of the visually impaired (QTVI), a Habilitation Specialist, a curriculum resource assistant and vision-impaired support staff. The additional curriculum for VI pupils includes pre-braille, braille, specialist technology, Independent Living Skills, Social Skills and orientation and mobility, with pupils working alongside peers in mainstream classrooms.
In Bexley, the local authority makes decisions about admitting children to community schools in Reception; in-year admissions are made via the local authority and places offered by the school according to availability of spaces. Belmont will admit 60 pupils into the two Reception classes each September. We have 26 part-time morning Nursery places.
