As Principal, Mr McDonald welcomes you to Sir Thomas Wharton Academy. The academy is growing and ambitious, serving over 1000 students from Edlington and surrounding areas, and is part of the Maltby Learning Trust. The vision is to deliver exceptional learning experiences that enable all young people to thrive in a competitive world and lead successful and fulfilling lives, underpinned by six key drivers and a highly resourced, flexible learning environment.
Sir Thomas Wharton Academy provides universal, targeted, and specialist SEND provision. All staff receive training to support SEND; universal provision includes whole-school strategies; targeted provision includes interventions (e.g., Now and next boards, Lego therapy, Sign language/board game clubs, Thrive, Exceed); students may have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and access to Provision Map; Thrive and Exceed provisions exist; external agencies are involved as needed; annual reviews and parent involvement are emphasized; the academy supports inclusion and mental health, with dedicated safeguarding structures and a Pathway to local services.
