Welcome to The Meadows School. We are a generic special secondary school for students aged 11 to 19. We are co-located with a mainstream High School and aim to meet wide-ranging and specific needs in a caring, friendly atmosphere, helping students to thrive, build self-confidence, independence and succeed into adulthood.

Curriculum Highlights

Three pathways leading to three broad outcomes: Learning for Life, Learning for Independence, Learning for Employment Pathways include ASDAN accreditations (e.g., New Horizons, Transition Challenge) and progression through Entry Level, GCSE and Functional Skills where appropriate KS3/4/5 curriculum for complex, severe and moderate needs with multi-sensory approaches, specialist teaching and enrichment activities (music therapy, Outdoor pursuits, sound-bath therapy) Sixth Form offers highly personalised curriculum with ASDAN Personal Progress, Functional Skills and GCSE options; many students attend partner colleges for day placements A thematic English approach with cross-curricular links and ASDAN evidence Broad use of communication methods (PECS, PODD, AAC, Makaton) and targeted communication support (SULP) Duke of Edinburgh Award participation; Outdoor / Outdoor Education and health & wellbeing focus Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) and Outdoor Education embedded across key stages

SEND Provision

The Meadows School provides education for students with special educational needs and disabilities. It uses a Total Communication approach and supports communication with Makaton, PECs, PODD, AAC and other strategies. It offers ELSA and Nurture interventions and SULP (Social Use of Language Programme). It works to provide access to ASDAN accreditations, and supports students in developing independence and life skills through partnerships and holistic approaches.
