"Proud to have a curriculum driven by our key values"
At Underwood West Academy, Religious Education has an important role in developing children’s knowledge and understanding of religious and non-religious worldviews, beliefs, practices and traditions, in today’s society. The school follows the 2022 – 2027 agreed syllabus from Cheshire East – ‘Engaging Encounters, Reasoned Responses, Connecting Communities’. This syllabus allows RE to be ‘delivered in a meaningful way, within which learners can explore beliefs, ethics and lifestyles of our modern lives, through delivery of Religious Education and Worldviews.’ We work closely with the SACRE guidance, NATRE Primary RE curriculum and with people in the local community. Some of the curriculum is delivered by specialists from our local community. (Heather Pritchard - West Street Baptist Church). Every pupil has a statutory entitlement to Religious Education as it makes a distinctive contribution to a broad and balanced curriculum. Our aim is to help children to develop knowledge, acceptance and understanding of different religions and cultures, so that they are empathetic towards people’s religious beliefs and values in their local community and in the wider world. Six broad themes are used to create enquiry questions that thread through and connect content from Early Years to Year Six: God the world and self; Authority; Personal Belief; Marking life’s journey; Religious/Non-religious Worldview in the wider world; Belonging.
Underwood West Academy is a happy, nurturing school where children enjoy coming to school and taking part in a wide range of exciting and stimulating learning activities. The text-based curriculum is centred around a love of reading and provides a broad, balanced and ambitious learning experience. The Principal, Mrs Laura Jones, emphasises meeting individual needs, fostering self-belief and high aspirations, and invites regular parental involvement. The academy is part of the Aspire Educational Trust.
