Headteacher Vickie Crombie describes Topcliffe as an inclusive, committed and caring school with a 52-place resource base; values-based, rich curriculum built around the HARRI values; part of Washwood Heath Multi Academy Trust; invites contact via telephone or email.
Topcliffe has two Resource Base provisions: Speech and Language Resource Base (SLCN) with capacity for 18 pupils and access to NHS speech and language therapists; two mixed-age classes with teachers and teaching assistants; language-rich environment with visual supports and specialist strategies. ASD Resource Base comprises five resource base classes (Yews, Sunflowers, Lilies, Buttercups, Willows) accommodating 36 pupils; each base has an individualised curriculum with pathways (Blue, Yellow, Green) and TEACCH-based, structured teaching; extensive staff training and collaboration with external professionals; admission through SENAR for EHCPs; regular home–school communication.
Resource Base provisions are allocated through Birmingham SENAR, and are for children with EHCPs that fit the designations of the provisions. Referrals are reviewed by the Resource Base lead to determine suitability, including a visit to the child in their current setting; admission to resource bases is through the SENAR admissions process and pupils cannot move from mainstream to the resource base without SENAR involvement.
