Ethos & Values

Service Teamwork Ambition Respect

The Olive School, Birmingham aims to promote educational excellence within a caring and secure Islamic environment enriched with the values of discipline, mutual care and respect.

Head Teacher's Message

The Olive School, Birmingham aims to deliver a safe, focused and happy environment for learning, with a personalised approach to educational excellence from reception onwards. The school emphasizes a values-based, inclusive and character-driven ethos, praise and rewards to promote good behaviour, opportunities to make a positive impact in the community, and enrichment and leadership programmes to develop pupils’ moral, performance and civic leadership.

Curriculum Highlights

We are proud to be a multicultural school and celebrate different cultures, backgrounds and beliefs to prepare pupils for life in modern Britain. Reading is fundamental to all learning; reading skills are built from the Early Years upwards, securing phonic knowledge rapidly and then developing essential comprehension skills. We develop a love for reading with ambitious and motivating texts, supported by our Star Readers initiative. The curriculum is broad, balanced and knowledge-rich with progression in knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare pupils for future learning and careers. Learning is coherent and knowledge-building; pupils study through a traditional, discrete subject model with literacy underpinning everything. Problem solving and real-world application, including work with the local community, play a key part in our curriculum. Our enrichment offer centres on five leadership foundations: sport, creativity, performing arts, enterprise and social action. Early Years follows the statutory Foundation Stage framework with seven areas of learning and development and Ruth Miskin’s Read Write Inc. phonics in Early Years and Year 1.
