Curriculum Highlights

Six periods per day (50 minutes each). Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) offers a broad curriculum with subject lesson counts and structure (English 5, Maths 4, Science 3, French 2-3, Food 1, Technology 1, Geography 2, History 2, RE 1, Personal Development 1, PE 2, Music 1, Art 1, Numeracy 1, ICT 1). Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11) offers high-quality courses with a broad range of subjects beyond the core and EBACC, designed to prepare students for Post-16 education or apprenticeships. Curriculum is underpinning by four principles: Scope (ambitious knowledge across time and breadth), Rigour (knowledge underpinned by tradition and truth), Coherent (knowledge linked to underpinning concepts and skills), Well-Sequenced (knowledge mapped across the curriculum to connect new and prior knowledge). Curriculum is enhanced by enrichment activities such as trips, visits, expert visitors, and work experience, and is integrated with Careers and personal development activities (including Gatsby benchmarks and Unifrog).

SEND Provision

Somercotes Academy provides SEND support through banding and setting, a team of teaching assistants, adaptive teaching, access to an Educational Psychologist, an Educational Welfare Officer, a Careers Advisor, and on-site first aid; medicines are stored securely; SEND is reported to Governors; transition provisions and accessibility considerations are in place; students with SEND are supported to participate in school activities and trips; pastoral support and regular review of progress are in place.

Admissions Criteria

Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust is the Admissions Authority. Somercotes Academy is non-selective and inclusive. Year 7 admissions are coordinated by Lincolnshire County Council. An oversubscription policy is described in the Admissions Policy. In-year applications are accepted. Applicants are notified in writing within 15 school days.
