Head Teacher's Message

I am pleased to welcome you to Calthorpe Academy, a 2-19 special needs school in the centre of Birmingham. The Senior Leadership team are determined to provide the best possible education to our learners regardless of their needs, background, beliefs or age to enable them to develop the ‘skills they need for the life they want’.

Curriculum Highlights

Curriculum ambition is to enable learners to have the skills to live the life they want. Curriculum provision is broad, balanced, relevant and reflective of cultural diversity. Plans are sequential with repetition to embed knowledge and skills. Progression and continuity of learning are tailored to individual needs as set out in EHCPs. Life skills are incorporated to transfer learning to real-life contexts. Regular formative and summative assessment records learner progress.

SEND Provision

Calthorpe Academy accepts pupils with a wide range of SEN including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties, Sensory Impairment and Autistic Spectrum Condition.

Admissions Criteria

All pupils admitted to the Academies will have an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP) already in place. The Academy accepts pupils with a wide range of SEN, which includes Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties, Sensory Impairment and Autistic Spectrum Condition.
