Head Teacher's Message

Welcome from Headteacher Jonathan Curtis. Hawthorns offers a four-pathways curriculum, moved to a purpose-built Hattersley site in 2024, and emphasizes coproduction with families to provide a safe, stimulating learning environment.

Facilities

Purpose-built Hawthorns School building in Hattersley (opened Sept 2024) Outdoor learning areas/new wildlife areas at the new site

Curriculum Highlights

SCERTS model as overarching ethos for our complex learners SEE-KS (Social, Emotional, Engagement Knowledge and Skills) model The Meadows Pathway (Connections Pathway within it) The Woodlands Pathway (First Steps, Aspire and Enrichment) Personalised Learning Plans aligned with EHCP outcomes; EfL-based assessment and planning Ongoing staff CPD with pathway-specific approaches

SEND Provision

Every pupil has an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) with a named caseworker; the school collaborates with the Tameside SEND team and other agencies to support pupils.

Admissions Criteria

Admissions are determined by Tameside Local Authority. Every pupil has an EHCP. The LA considers the child’s needs, the provision the school can offer, and available places. Admissions are typically preferred for a September start; in-year admissions are usually not possible because classes are full, with limited spaces when a pupil leaves mid-year.
