Curriculum Highlights

All-through curriculum from EYFS to Year 13; broad, ambitious, knowledge-rich and inclusive. Assessment emphasises retrieval practice and aims to build rich knowledge webs; no denial of knowledge; emphasis on progression between year groups. Literacy development is central; explicit vocabulary teaching; literacy staff training; Read Write Inc in primary; NGRT and Lucid Exact reading tests in secondary; reading aloud featured across the school. Bedrock Vocabulary used to build tier-two academic vocabulary (Years 5-9); Accelerated Reader used from Years 2-9 to monitor independent reading progress; daily reading expectation (20-30 minutes). Reading aloud and a Book Club for across year groups to foster a cohesive, values-driven literary community (EYFS–Year 13). Two dedicated libraries (primary and secondary) with Accessit for catalogue, reservations and reviews; shelf displays for events (e.g., Black History Month, LGBT+ History Month). Interleaving and Spacing are used as learning strategies to embed knowledge; literacy interventions and targeted support for bottom 20% of readers; specialist literacy interventions (Fresh Start Phonics, Sounds Write, etc.). Extensive literacy and reading initiatives are monitored through regular assessments (STAR tests, NGRT) to track progress and tailor support.
