Head Teacher's Message

Welcome message from Headteacher Mrs Nicola Osborne.

Curriculum Highlights

Oracy and Vocabulary – We recognise that in order to be successful learners, children need to be able to communicate and express themselves through their talk. We strive to provide numerous opportunities for our children to thoroughly develop their communication and language skills (star words approach) and regular talk tasks. Active Learning – Lesson design ensures direct involvement of the learner in the learning process. Personal Development – Emphasis on developing the β€˜whole child’ and providing a rich programme across all curriculum areas to support social mobility and personal growth. Maths – Mastery principles using White Rose; year group objectives with Going Deeper and Even Deeper challenges; focus on reasoning and fluency; arithmetic practice for all pupils. Computing – Follows the NCCE Teach Computing Curriculum for years 1 to 6; aims to equip pupils to be digitally literate and to use technology safely and creatively. MFL – Language Angels scheme in KS2 with Spanish introduction in KS1; develops listening, speaking, reading and writing across the primary phase. Art – Practical work in drawing, painting, sculpture, printing and textiles; emphasis on creativity and vocabulary to describe, respond and critique art. Design & Technology – Hands-on learning with textiles, wood, food and electrical components; focuses on problem solving, risk-taking and innovation. Geography, History, Science – Broad curriculum with investigations, fieldwork, and emphasis on developing knowledge and understanding; progression of skills and cross-curricular links. Phonics & Reading – Phonics taught with Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised from Nursery; guided reading approaches in LKS2 and UKS2; emphasis on reading for enjoyment.

SEND Provision

Pupil Premium funding was introduced by the Coalition Government in April 2011 to allow schools to offer additional support to looked after children, children from families in the armed services and those from low-income families. Funding is based on children registered for a free school meal, service children and children in care. Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit to best meet the needs of its children; however, we are required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium.

Admissions Criteria

Monteney Primary admits children in line with the Local Authority Admissions Policy. Each year we accept 60 pupils.
