The Breakfast Club serves a variety of toast, porridge and pastries, with a free bagel bar for students arriving before school (as part of Kellogg’s free breakfast scheme). There is a breakfast, break and lunchtime service each day. Cashless catering is used (WisePay). Allergen information and guidance are available for meals, and there are vegetarian/other options.
SEND provision includes a SENCO (Mrs E. Brown) and learning support; there are mental health supports including a Mental Health Ambassador team, School lead for mental health (Miss A. Matthews) and Senior Mental Health Lead (Mrs A. Hudson); a Market Health & Support Team (MHST) initiative in Wigan; and a school counsellor via referral.
Admission criteria (2026/27): Looked after children or previously looked after (including those adopted or with special guardianship order); siblings of pupils already attending Byrchall; other children living in the Makerfield area; other children living nearest to the school. Places are allocated by distance with a GIS-based straight-line measurement; if distances are the same, a random method used by the local authority may determine offers; waiting list kept until 31 December 2026.
