Heathfield has a specialist provision for children with Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). The base will offer an individualised curriculum to meet the needs of up to 24 children by July 2027. Access to the provision is gained via the local authority SEND provision panels. Children are referred to the panel via their home school with parental consent. The panel decides whether the child’s needs can be met at Heathfield. Children in the SLCN base remain on a dual registration with their home school, with the aim of returning to their home school with strategies to support success.
The School has an agreed admission number of 60 students. Applications are made in accordance with the LA’s coordinated arrangements (PSA by Darlington Borough Council). If more applications than places are received, the Trust uses its oversubscription criteria to allocate places. There is an appeals process for unsatisfied applicants, in line with the School Admission Appeals Code.
