Dan Burns is the Headteacher and leads Old Earth School. He describes his role as providing vision and leadership to ensure high-quality education for all pupils, safeguarding, and a welcoming, family-like learning environment. He emphasizes that Old Earth aims to be a centre of learning where all stakeholders feel safe, work hard and are happy, and notes his responsibility as the Designated Safeguarding Lead alongside deputy DSLs.

All children at Old Earth get the support they need to learn, play and have fun together. For some children with special educational needs or disabilities, this might mean some extra help or resources are needed. The SEND Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Miss Emma Townley (from September 2025) having taken over the role from Mrs Freeman who held the role since 2003. The SENCO leads a team including teachers, teaching assistants, parents/carers and specialist services.
Applications are made via Calderdale Council Admissions process. Old Earth Primary School has 60 full-time places for Reception across two classes. The school is part of an academy (Single Academy Trust) and admissions are not allocated by the school itself.
Funding: From the term following a child’s third birthday, all children are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare, funded by the government; some families are eligible for 30 hours. From the term following a child’s second birthday, some children are entitled to 15 hours free childcare and from September 2025 this is changing to 30 hours. Sessions may be funded or fee-paying or a combination, subject to availability.
